About This Project

Column is an innovative shading system, where retractable umbrella is enclosed in a rigid rounded case, in order to protect it from bad weather and hide it when kept closed.
Functional relation between exterior case and inner content defines the whole aspect of this product. Design concept was inspired by the classical idea of a column, and suggests a transposition of the iconic character in a sintetic way. Column could be perceived as a small urban monument, the totemic shape makes it a communicative landmark, ready to be customized.
Architectural reference transforms it in a design tool of the urban space, and it is possible to think a disposition by stand-alone, punctual elements, or by linear sequences that reproduce the visual perception of a colonnade, or furthermore to recreate regular layouts.
